Unlike traditional optical media, which utilize dyes that can break down over time, data stored on an M DISC is engraved on a patented inorganic write layer. It will not fade or deteriorate. This unique engraving process renders these archival-grade discs practically impervious to environmental exposure, including light, temperature and humidity. Unlike hard drives or tape-based media, this optical disc is not vulnerable to damage from magnetic fields. It is write-once, meaning that once data is recorded, it cannot be accidentally erased. To burn M DISC media, you will need an M DISC ready drive. Drives that are M DISC ready will often have the M DISC logo on the drive. Fully backward-compatible optical drives should be able to play M DISC media.
